Since there is approximately zero pressure inside the capsule, and assuming the instrument to be at sea level, approximately 14.7 lbf/in2 on the outside, the capsule will tend to collapse. This, however, is prevented by a strong leaf spring fitted so that one side is attached to the top of the capsule and the other side to the instrument baseplate.
