Master Cylinder or Slave cylinder have gone bad and needs to be replaced. They have a diaphragm inside them the help make vacuum and if this diaphragm does not work properly it can cause your symptoms.

How do you tell if my brake lines have a leak?

You will be adding brake fluid to the reservoir often. The brake pedal won't feel firm. The brake pedal may sink to the floor as you are applying steady pressure.Do a visual inspection of the brake lines looking for that wet spot.

Why does brake pedal go to floor on 1989 4x4?

check your brake fluid level. its probably empty for some reason...leak? If the fluid level is correct than you most likely have air in the brake lines and will need to have the brake lines bled.

What does it mean in your car if all your brake fluid drains and brake pedal will now go to the floor?

You have a leak. It could be from the master cylinder, lines, calipers, hoses, or wheel cylinders. Add fluid, pump the pedal, and look for the leak.

What happens when you run out of brake fluid?

The brake pedal will go to the floor but will have absolutely no effect on stopping the vehicle. When you push on the brake pedal it moves the fluid through metal tubes (called brake lines) to force the brake pads against the rotor which slows and stops the car. No fluid means nothing is in there to make the brake pads engage the rotors.

What does it mean when you can press brake pedal down to the floor?

If there is no resistance when you do this you are likely to have air in the brake lines or you have lost your break fluid. (Don't drive you car with faulty breaks).

Brake pedal almost goes to the floor before it engages the brakes?

Probable causes: Low or no fluid in reservoir; Worn brake pads/shoes; Air in brake lines; Leaking brake line.

1997f-350 brake pedal goes to floor?

ouch, are brakes adjusted correctly/ sit in vehical and pump pedal to get a full pedal, then hold pedal to see if it bleeds off and goes to floor,if it stays, replace shoes and pads if it goes to floor, there is a fluid leak somewhere is there brake fluid in the resevoir/ are there any brake fluid leaks ,check backside of wheels there is a brake fluid pump, on the chassis rail about level with the front of the front door on the left side.if this pump is bad your pedal will go to the floor

Can worn brake pads make your brake pedal to go to the floor?

no you have a brake fluid leak somewere

Why 1990 Geo Tracker brake pedal hard to press?

Hardness in the brake pedal can because by low brake fluid. Air in the brake lines can also cause the pedal to push hard.

Why do Brakes go to floor and no loss of fluid?

The master cylinder for the brakes is probably out or going out..the piston inside the master cylinder is letting the fluid bypass it. OR You have air trapped in the brake lines and must bleed the brake lines. When you step on the pedal, the air does not compress so the pedal goes to the floor. You must get all the air out of all the lines including the master cylinder for the brake system to work correctly. There won't be any fluid leaks with either of these scenarios....... ........only if you have a leaking brake caliper piston or with a drum brake cylinder, where the seals are shot, and you can see the fluid running down on the tires Don't drive it until you find the problem.

Why does brake pedal go to floor on 1991 buick park avenue?

First, make sure the master cylinder is filled with brake fluid. If it is low, there may be a leak somewhere in the brake lines or a brake cylinder. If the master cylinder is bad, you can normally pump the brakes up, but the pedal will slowly sink to the floor again. The master cylinder needs to be replaced or repaired.

How do you know if the master cylinder is going out?

The brake pedal will sink to the floor when applied and the brake fluid reservoir remains full.
