Shuddering (like shivering, shaking), I believe, is caused by the surface area changes, in two ways. First, the friction plate can become glazed if it is ridden too much, or perhaps it is sliding and you aren't recognizing this. Basically, when the friction surface is too hot, a glaze of sorts forms and this is more slippery than when it is not. This will cause the two faces to bounce off of one another. Another possibility, although maybe less likely, or perhaps in combination, would be distortion caused by expansion due to heat. In a floating design, as seen on very high performance vehicles, this effect can be lessened. Either way, to cure this, I would have the clutch inspected. I suspect that you will find excessive wear, or that the assembly needs adjusting.

Where is the clutch reservoir on a 98 ford escort?

The clutch master cylinder gets it's fluid from the master brake cylinder reservoir. The clutch is below the brake and gets it's fluid by gravity. If you need fluid just add to the brake reservoir.

Why does my 2000 kia sportage start to overheat in traffic?

I had the exact same problem with my 2002 Sportage. My problem was the fan clutch was worn out. If your's is a thermal clutch then that is probably the problem. The problem is that the liquid in the fan clutch gets too thin while it is spinning and does not coagulate when your coming to a stop or slowing down and does not spin faster as it should.

How do you adjust clutch cable on golf 97?

The 97 usually has a clutch cable that is self-adjusting. This cable usually gets replaced when a new clutch is installed, as it is difficult to un-adjust it once it adjusts for clutch wear. Some enthusiasts fit their car with the old-style manual adjusting clutch cable, in a belief that is helps clutch feel and prolongs clutch life. The clutch cable itself is between the motor and the battery, a big black thing that hooks into the transmission's front clutch release lever. IF you have a friend push the clutch in and out, you can easily see it operate if you're looking under the hood.
