The Earth isn't "clean". Remember, the word "earth" is synonymous with "dirt" and "soil". The goal of most people is to keep the Earth more-or-less as it is now, which is suitable for our kind of life.
The biological processes that support us humans also causes decay and rot; these processes are entirely natural, and we would all suffer if somebody interfered with them. The decay and rot converts old, no longer useful organic material into new, useful organic material. Anybody who has ever had a garden with a compost pile is intimately familiar with the processes of decay and renewal. I can put egg shells, vegetable peelings, fallen leaves and grass clippings into the compost pile; water thoroughly, stir every few days, and keep adding more and stirring more.... And next spring, I'll have fresh compost to mix into the vegetable garden to start the process over again.
