Why does the engine of my 960 1995 Volvo turn off at stop lights and low speeds?

There is a sensor in the tube going from the air filter to the throttle that may need to be cleaned or replaced. It sticks down into the air path, has a couple of wires going to it. It's job is to tell the computer how much to open the throttle to allow you car to idle smoothly. Good luck.
