Probably the evaporator core has mould on it and needs to be cleaned.
It sounds like the heater core is leaking. Check for the smell of antifreeze and that will confirm the bad heater core.
It is caused by a fungus which grows on the heater core or the a/c evaporator. There are things that you can spray in the air intake but they don't last long.
You might have a fuel injector leak that causes the AC in your Dodge Intrepid to smell like gasoline. When the AC pulls air from the outside, it might be pulling some gas vapors in as well.
This has much to do with how the air conditioner and the heater is vented. If the air conditioner draws its air from outside it could be picking up air / smell of smoke from the other family and then redistributing it into your home. A heater on the other had usually has a heater input vent within the house it is heating (it draws the interior air in and then heats it blowing it back out) as the air within the home will be significantly warmer than the exterior air.
small amount that lasts a minute or less condensation,no problem. large amount and/or a sweet smell, heater core is leaking.
If the heater has a sweet smell it could be that the heater core is leaking engine coolant. When the leak gets worse you will have a wet floor on the passenger side and the windshield will fog up when you turn on the defroster.
Its your Heater core if it smells like a syrupy sweet smell if not then its your thermostat
Take it back to the dealer. The AC drain is Blocked OR the Heater Core is Leaking.
Assuming that the blower motor isn't on fire, it's probably the heater core. Does the smmoke smell sweet. If yes that's antifreeze. The smoke does smell like anti-freeze. Does this suggest that the heater core is the problem?
EGR Valve stuck open
A smell coming from a reverse cycle air conditioner may be a signal that the filter needs to be cleaned. A smell like engine exhaust might be present if the air conditioner motor is in need of repair.
Yes, it will make the interior smell bad.
