Why does your 1994 cutlass ciera run hot with no heat before and after you changed the thermostat?

It may be your water pump. If the coolant isn't moving, and passing thru the heater core to provide heat, and your engine is running hot, then the coolant is just sitting in the block not being circulated and overheating. The thermostat can be wide open allowing flow but if there is none, then changign it out doesn't do a thing for your car's heating/cooling
