Had the same problem and come to find out that it was the cars computer malfunctioning.
A faulty alternator will cause those symptoms. You might want to get t checked out.
I just had this problem with my 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. The problem is a short in the "multi-function switch." When I took it to get fixed, they told me that a lot of Pontiac Grand Ams have had this problem, and mine was fixed through warranty.
