Any engine advanced (especially one tooth) will start and idle awesome, but run like crap at high RPM. Remember, at higher RPM, the engine will want to "anticipate" a cylinder compression stroke and will want to spark "in advance". However, at idle, igniting the mixture just past (retarded) TDC will prove to offer a very smooth idle.
