Cats, including wild cats like Tigers, use their tongues to clean themselves. Their rough tongues and saliva are very effective. You may see cats licking the back of their paws and then rub their faces to clean them, since they can't clean their own face with their tongue.

Cats in a group may also clean each other's faces, both to stay clean and to promote socialization and bonds between cats. Your cat licking you is both offering to help clean you, and show you the bond between you.

It could be just as simple as...your face is salty good. Cats like salty things. I have seen and owned cats who licked all the salt from chips.
