Drive it for a few days and log some miles on it and the check engine light may go out. Mine used to set a check engine light on really hot days here in the desert. I was told then engine and the computer have to go thru x amoutn of cycles and if the problem doesn't show up during those cycles, the check engine light will turn off. Enevtually the light came on to stay and my problem turned out to be a weak fuel pump.

on QX4 1997 i got on begining check engine and ABS after i replaced alternator and the battery light goes off and after couple days that come back, i suspected electrical problems

Check your temperature gauge. If it shows the engine is running in the normal range then there could be a problem with the "air door" that controls how much air is brought in through the heater core. Or the core itself is plugged and needs to be flushed out. If the guage shows the engine is running cold , then you should have the thermostat replaced.

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

yes if the gas cap wasn't on properly then the change in pressure would set off a sensor. put the cap on right or replace it and if the check engine goes away after a few days that was your problem

I just bought a 2001 s500. The person I bought it from told me that if I let the gas get too low or did not tighten the gas cap properly, the "check engine" light would come on. Well, about two weeks after I purchased the vehicle I let the gas get a little low and sure enough the "check engine" light came on. I filled it up with gas and the "check engine" light stayed on. I got worried. Finally after two days of being on it just went out by itself. Has not come back on since.

The gas cap message can come up on the dash when there is a large vapor leak from the fuel tank. You need to check all of the vacuum lines going from the engine to the tank.

Basically if the check engine light goes off it means the fault is not permanent and not consistent. The fault came and after so many cycles the PCM said there's a problem and it lit up the check engine lite. After so many cycles of the fault correcting itself the PCM then stopped the light from being on. Nevertheless the PCM always usually records this fault in its history of faults for retrieval later on via a scanner == I have heard that sometimes if the gas cap is not on tightly, or the door to the gas cap is not completely closed, that the check engine light may come on. Perhaps it settles after a few days after going over a few bumps.

I HAVE A 2004 MITSUBISHI ENDEAVOR, AND THE ONLY TIME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IS WHEN I FAILED TO CLOSE MY GAS CAP TIGHTLY. THE LONGEST THE LIGHT STAYED ON WAS FOR 3 DAYS AND THEN IT WENT OFF.

What is the code? Auto Zone does a free check with a code reader. Find out and fix or you may not pass state emissions test to renew vehicle sticker.

The most common cause is that the gas cap is not seating properly. If your gas cap is loose, re-seat it and wait two days to see if the light goes off, if it does not, see below.... Banana spiders hibernate when it is cold out, but are not in a very deep sleep. The cold locks up their muscles so on mild days they may come out for food.

The cold virus usually lasts 7 days. Check into allergies. If you are in the south, like south Texas, you may have cedar allergies. They are rampant.

The Check Engine Light has come on because the computer has detected a problem with the emissions system. It has nothing to do with the coolant. Take it to a trusted professional and he will scan the computer with an OBD2 scan tool. He will use the fault code as a guide to determine what the problem is. also if you had recently messed with the engine as in unplug something and turned the car on the the light will be on for a few days but eventully turn off

The check " gage " light on in your 1997 Mercury Mountaineer indicates that either your engine oil pressure is LOW , your engine temperature is HIGH or your gas tank is AT OR NEAR EMPTY .

you need to take it to a mechanic because they have a machine to turn it off. they will run a diagnostics test. when they turn it off it may come back on a few days later. there may be nothing wrong with the engine, but that light may just stay on all the time anyways

I hve a 1998 Honda Civic LX and the check engine light would come on for a few days or longer, and then go off. I have had a mechanic check it out and each time it was the oxygen sensors. I have replaced them 3 times over the last 5 years. Each time I used the cheapest ones I could buy, and that's probably why they did not last long. Now I am using Denso brand and the problem is fixed.AnswerGo to auto zone and find out for free.
