Why does your power steering not work on your 1987 Toyota Tercel?
Check your power steering fluid level , belt tension if ok replace pump The power steering pressure lines travel from the p/steering pump on the passenger side of the engine to just beneath the radiator (in the frame that holds the radiator) then the 2 lines go accross and underneath the radiator frame to the drivers side and then to the steering column. This course does place the lines in a somewhat exposed area vunerable to rocks/ledges that might be hit in a field. My lines flexed a bit then rusted thru where they were bent. I have to replace or weld/solder them yet as there is a leak there. TC
What component in a 1987 Toyota Tercel speedometer is the most likely to cause the needle to on occasion whir and flip flop erratically?
To convert a 1987 B2000 Powe Steering system to a manual system do you replace just the steering gear?
Not sure on what the difference is on FEEL of the manual to power steering on these trucks. But if you want to be cheap simply remove the power steering belt.I know the gear box for manual steering is probably different hands down, however the added expense or time to convert it would be USELESS for a 23 year old truck.Seriously.
you may have to remove the timing belt to see it and remove it but it is located on the passenger side of the car toward the top of the engine on the firewall side operated by an external belt. it will have 2 belts on it, one of them goes to the crank pulley, the other is a shortie and it operates the power steering.
Here are some notes I found on: http://experts.about.com/q/Toyota-Repair-832/91-tercel-steering-wheel.htm The ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced, the only way the cylinder will come out is if you can get into the "acc" position, there is a release pin on the housing that you have to push in to remove the cylinder,. remove the covering around the locj to gain access to the pin, it may be a good idea to buy the new lock cylinder…
