There could be many reasons, but the most common is the oil orifice in the blade is blocked. Remove the blade clean the oil hole in the blade (It is located just under the sprocket). If that does not help could be the oil pump and on many models could be a very expensive fix.

Can you thin chainsaw oil?

Chainsaw oil is thick or rather "sticky" so it will not get thrown off the fast moving chain thereby losing it's lubricating function. Thinning is best avoided.

Where can one get a chainsaw chain for it?

You can obtain a replacement chainsaw chain from various sources, both online and offline. Here are several options where you can purchase a new chainsaw chain: Chainsaw Dealerships: Authorized dealerships that sell the specific brand of chainsaw you own are likely to carry replacement chains. Visit or contact a local chainsaw dealership to inquire about the availability of chainsaw chains compatible with your model. Hardware Stores: Many hardware stores and home improvement centers carry a selection of chainsaw accessories, including replacement chains. Chainsaw chains are often available in these stores, and staff may be able to assist you in finding the right size and type for your chainsaw. Outdoor Power Equipment Retailers: Specialty retailers that focus on outdoor power equipment and tools often stock replacement chainsaw chains. These stores may have a broader selection, and the staff may have expertise in helping you choose the right chain. Online Retailers: Numerous online retailers offer a wide range of chainsaw chains. Websites like Amazon, eBay, and specialized outdoor equipment stores provide a convenient way to browse and purchase replacement chains. Ensure that you select the correct chain for your chainsaw model. Chainsaw Manufacturers' Websites: Check the official website of the chainsaw manufacturer. Many manufacturers sell replacement parts, including chains, directly through their online stores. This is a reliable way to ensure you get a chain that is specifically designed for your chainsaw model. These stores may have sections dedicated to outdoor equipment, where you can find replacement chains for your chainsaw. Local Dealerships or Repair Shops: Local dealerships or repair shops that specialize in outdoor power equipment may have replacement chains in stock. They may also be able to provide guidance on choosing the right chain for your chainsaw. When purchasing a replacement chainsaw chain, consider the following factors: Chainsaw Model Compatibility: Ensure that the chain is compatible with the make and model of your chainsaw. Chain Type: Different chains are designed for specific applications (e.g., full chisel, semi-chisel). Choose a chain type based on your cutting needs. Chain Size: Match the chain size to the specifications provided in your chainsaw's manual. Before purchasing, it's a good idea to check your chainsaw's manual for information on the recommended chain specifications. This ensures that the replacement chain is the correct size and type for your chainsaw.

Can you use 30 weight oil in an electric chain saw in freezing temperatures?

You cannot use any type of "engine oil" on a chainsaw bar. Even though the oil itself is quite adequate, manufacturers put a tackifier into the oil so it doesn't fly off the chain when in motion. The temperature outside is irrelevant, in this case.

How do you know what chain to fit on a chainsaw?

Can you run a chainsaw without the chain?

Yep. You can run it without the bar and everything. It may leak bar oil though as most pump oil as the motor runs to lube the chain. It may have a tendency to rev higher though so don't squeeze the throttle too much.
