When some people look down on other people who are gay, it is called "homophobia" these people are mostly religious and think it is a bad thing to be gay , or even worse, they believe that this is a "chosen" life style.

More education is needed for homophobes, sadly they do not see it that way. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing the matter with gay people, that is just the way human beings are born.

There are many bigoted individuals who conveniently find reasons to denigrate or vilify others simply to satisfy their personal prejudices. There are numerous types of social, financial and cultural prejudices existing in most civilized societies worldwide. Most individuals who participate in acts of persecution and animosity against others are usually influenced by religious, social, cultural and financial ideologies. There is also the significant factor of violations against the inalienable rights of others to the enjoyment of their personal property and space. It is the basic human right of every individual to a guaranty of protection of their personal property and space from any type of encroachment from others. This demands that no one should have the freedom to impose their ideologies upon others.

AnswerTo echo the above, I must add the position of the 'religious' here, as this aspect of homosexual acceptance is very much in the press at the moment, and has a bearing directly on this question. We hear of some (especially Islamic) states where homosexuality and homosexual behaviour is punishable by death - even today. Yet the Koran says nothing about homosexual behaviour.

We also hear in the Christian Church of homosexuality being 'a sin', and shamefully some so-called Christians will single out homosexuals as the very devils of hell and yet turn a blind eye to racism and neglect of the poor - especially in the USA.

As a Christian myself I can only really speak of the Christian faith rather than Islam or any other religion. Therefore, if you are homosexual, I can tell you this: Jesus Christ never, ever condemned homosexuality or homosexuals. he condemned bigots, those who misinterpreted scripture, those who lorded it over others, hypocrites and the rich and powerful who misused their money and power. But never homosexuals.

In the New Testament, there are just two major references to 'homosexuality' being 'sinful', both made by Paul. And in both cases Paul is more concerned, not with a homosexual loving relationship, but in the sacrifices made by what he calls in Greek "arsenokoi" - pagan, homosexual temple prostitutes. He was concerned with the adoption of pagan ritual rather than loving homosexual relationships. The Greek is absolutely clear. Yet there are those who would cite scripture to somehow 'back up' their own prejudices and bigotries.

The simple fact is that Jesus accepted everyone. We are all made in God's image - black, white, homosexual, straight - even the bigots and hypocrites. Christ mixed with all people and was more concerned with the content of their hearts than with their sexual lives.

Therefore, as a Christian, it angers and shames me to read that some of my so-called brothers and sisters in Christ single out gay people as sinful where scripturally there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever for this stand. In my own congregation we have a male homosexual couple. In my theological college, several of my fellow ordinands (and at least one lecturer) are gay or lesbian - and at least two of them are ordained and in loving relationships. They are accepted wholeheartedly, just as Christ accepted everyone. So when you read the nonsense in the press about the Church 'hating' gays, I suggest that you realise that is is the very small, bigoted but voiciferous minority (every organisation has them!) who are saying this, whilst the vast majority of normal Christians take a different view and look at what Jesus Christ himself would have said - which is very different indeed.

There is another reason other than religion that people do not accept gay people. It is simply because of immaturity and ignorance. Obviously, many heterosexuals are disgusted by the sight of two women kissing or horrified by the thought of two men having sex. But if you get right down into it, being gay is not something homosexuals are able to change. They got their sexuality from their DNA, something that they were never involved in besides being there.

People should learn to accept people for the "content of their character" instead of by the gender he or she is attracted to. They should never call gays "fags" or "lesbians" as these are improper as well as extremely rude terms for homosexuals. Maybe you know someone who is gay but you don't know that they are gay, but most likely you get along with them just fine. That's the spirit everybody should get into, even if you know already about their sexuality.

No they dont. >:P Not all of them. You cant make assumptions like that. Only homophobic people fear gays.

Generally, the heterosexuals who "fear" gays are ignorant and uneducated with respect to the homosexual community. Sometimes it's Christian dogma driven, others times it's a deep rooted bigotry since childhood-maybe directly from a parent(s), bad experience etc. If a heterosexual is completely comfortable with his/her sexuality, there is no logical reason to "fear" gays.

No, not at all. To say that all straight men hate homosexuals would be generalizing an entire half of the human race. To say that some straight men are homophobic would be accurate because perhaps a large number is afraid of what they do not understand.

People usually hate because of fear or ignorance, and there has been a lot of fear and ignorance about gay people. The best way to deal with this is to do a little reading, and if possible meet a few gay people. We don't bite (usually). Peace happiness and love no matter what colour you are or what sex you like :)

Answer

Many people believe that their lifestyle is superior to others and hate anybody who disagrees with them. They often use superstition and fictional stories to justify their hate. You must live the way THEY want. They are full of hate and evil and will tell you that gay people will go to HELL, a fictional place that they have created.

Answer

people have an evolutionary need to hate what they perceive as different from themselves.

imagine a group of genetically similar monkeys, if they hate and don't protect a different group then they have a better chance. this is what is happening except the boundaries between the groups is sexuality, and one group is uneducated and committed to outdated ideals. It sometimes is that being gay or lesbian is against there religion (christians and catholics)

If all of the gay people that you have ever met appear to hate straight people then that is very unfortunate. That does not however mean that all gay people hate straight people.

Just the same as not all straight people hate gay people, so do not all gay people hate straight people.

It is generally understood that 'straight' people who harbour hatred towards gay people are homophobic - which is theorized to be a condition where the person is suppressing homosexual tendencies themselves, meaning that they are deeply closet gay. Another exception to this is religious belief.

In that case - straight people do not hate gay people - homosexuals who may be suppressing their urges may hate gay people.

Gay people in my opinion do not generally hate straight people unless they have been attacked or discriminated against harmfully by so called 'straight' people.

The fact is - anybody who is absolutely comfortable in their sexuality does not have the desire to be hateful to any sex because they are usually just at ;peace with enjoying and celebrating their sexuality.

Not all men are uptight with gay men. The correct question would be: why are some straight men uptight with gay men?

Straight men that have a feeling of discomfort or are "uptight" around gay men could have that feeling for several different reasons.

1. They fear what is different or "different than them" the same way people may act awkward around someone who is missing a limb or dresses "funny".

2. In a social setting gay men tend to have better interaction with women and may make the straight man feel inadequate.

3. Maybe the straight man feels its wrong to be gay and that projection or thought may make him act uptight.

People tend to hate or dislike, distrust anything that is different than themselves or their beliefs. For a lot of people, that is just how they are wired and they have no interest in changing.

No States. It would be against the discrimination laws. The law states that no person shall be discriminated because of race, sex, sexuality, religion, age. Not that it hasn’t been tried, but so far the Supreme Court has ruled for the gay community.

Most homophobia is based on religion. But some is also due to the fact that people are fighting their own demons, and find it easy to take out their problems on innocent people around them.
