Many people do not eat dog meat because they were raised to believe that dogs have another purpose e.g. farming, pets, racing etc.
Dog meat is eaten in some parts of the world. However, it is taboo in the majority of the world. In many Western countries, dogs are seen as "man's best friend", so the consumption of a dog would be offensive and sickening to them.
Most people don't think about the feelings of the animals they eat, so while many would consider it cruel to eat a dog, they don't see any harm in eating a pig, even though pigs have a higher IQ than dogs (about that of a human toddler), and have just as much desire to live as any other sentient being.
Dogs, like pigs, are omnivores. They are bred to be eaten in some places. There is no ethical or nutritional difference between eating a dog and eating a pig. When people realize this fact, they often stop eating all meat.

In the Western World, Singapore and Japan, dog meat is taboo because they are seen as man`s best friend. They are viewed as cherished pets, and even a part of the family in the USA.
In the Middle East, dogs are viewed as unclean animals, and eating dog viewed as filthy.

∙ 7y agoI don't eat dog meat for the same reason that I don't eat pig meat or horse meat or cow meat or chicken meat. Humans have no biological need to consume the flesh of other animals. If we can live well without hurting others, why wouldn't we?

There's nothing indigestible in pet food. Dogs and cats both require a higher proportion of protein in their diets than people do. If you tried to actually live off pet food indefinitely, however, you run the risk of malnourishment in the long term.
Dogs and cats alsop don't need vitamin C in their diet because they make their own. Eat nothing but pet food over a long period, and you might get scurvy.
