My hamster didnt use to bite when we got him a few days ago why has he started?

Our hamster has started biting also after almost 2 weeks of perfect behavior. My 6 year old is in tears. But I think it may be hormonal. She (the hamster) is probably going through puberty and from what I have read they can have false pregnancies that last for 10 -15 days. What I am wondering is since they are fertile every 10 days and can have false pregnancies that last about that long also, when will she ever be sweet again? Can somebody shed some light on this problem?

∙ 13y agoSometimes it is because your hamster is hungry. If you do not feed your hamster when his/her food is getting low, your hamster will probably bite you. If that is not why you are not seeing your hamster enough or you are waking him up or bothering him/her to much.

∙ 15y agoYour hands may smell like food. He smells it and since their vision isn't very good, you get nipped. Wash your hands in hot water, no soap or germ x, then try to pick him up

I have read that a female hamster's hormones kick in every couple of days. This makes them very mean weekly. If I were you I would go with a male. You are much safer on getting a nicer hamster if you get a male. I would recommend a Syrian hamster. They are the nicest of all the hamster breeds. DO NOT keep them in the same cage. Syrian hamsters DO NOT get along with their own breed!!

What treatment would your hamster get for having a bald patch?
My hamster used to have a bald patch until i rubbed on some tea tree cream on to the bald area for a couple of days until the fur started to grow back in. Hope this comes in useful :)
