The first thing to check is the dome switch position. There are usually three...one for always off, one for on with the door open, and one for always on. Make sure it's in the right one.
Closing the door turns off interior lights on a 1997 Chevy S10 because there is a switch in the door jamb that closes when the door shuts. When the door opens, the switch opens.
Is door ajar light on also?
Your sliding door is out of adjustment and when the body flexes the switch closes causeing your light s on door chime to come on.
I believe if you rotate the gauge panel dimmer wheel switch ( beside your headlight switch ) all the way down , it will keep your interior lights from coming on when you open a door
On the interior lights for the back seats, there is a switch. When you turn the switch to "Door" mode it will make the lights turn on when the door is opened.
Check all you door switches, sounds like one of them has gone bad.
The interior lights fuse on the astra 57 reg is located on the door hatch.
If its a series 2 (roughly 1998 - 2004) the interior lights shut themselves off after about a minute. If the engine is running and you shut the door and reopen it the lights will come back on. If the engine is off the lights will not come on when you reopen the door - you'll have to turn the key on first * On the 96 Disco you can turn off the interior light by moving the headliner lamp switch (3 position)to the off position.
I had this problem in my 97. Turned out to be a door senser in the drivers door. Solution was to cut the wire. The only effect it had was the interior lights don't come on now when you touch the door knob however they still come on when you open the doors

check the sensors if the lights arent on then reposition them until the light come on
