There are many factors that add up to make London Heathrow one of the world's busiest airports.
Firstly, though the UK may be a geographically small country, it is still the 22nd most populated country on Earth. The majority of that population is in or near the city of London.
Heathrow Airport is known as a prominent gateway airport. A lot of travellers from the US fly in to Heathrow to then catch connecting flights on to other destinations around Europe, or even on to more far flung destinations further east or in Africa. It also works vice versa, with travellers flying first to Heathrow and then on to destinations in the US.
It also has to do with London being a major financial and business city attracting investors and business men and women from around the globe.
When someone is using the word heathrow, they are referring to an airport in London. The heathrow airport is a small airport that is located in Hillingdon London, which is in the United Kingdom.
1) London Heathrow 2) London Gatwick 3) London Stansted 4) Manchester 5) London Luton 6) Birmingham 7) Edinburgh 8) Glasgow 9) Bristol 10) Liverpool (John Lennon)
A small vllage with a heath. Heathrow Airport is now on the heath and the village has disappeared.
The airport in taba is very basic There are a couple of small shops and one small cafe. the security is very strict as you can imagine it is NOTHING like an airport in britain, like gatwick or heathrow, of course.
Construction of runways began in 1944, and London Heathrow Airport was made available for full civil use on May 31, 1946.
Humberside is probably the nearest airport to Hull. However it is a small regional airport with very few flights in and out. Depending on where you are travelling from, you may have to fly into London Heathrow and then take a train.
The closest airport to Southampton [all one word] is Eastleigh Airport. It is not an international airport. You don't saym where you will flym from but assuming you are coming from USA you will need to fly into Heathrow and take the train down to Southampton.
This would be London City Airport, which is located in the eastern suburbs of the city not far away from The Docklands (the new skyscraper district). However, this airport is restricted to mainly business and charter flights. So you're more likely to end up at Heathrow Airport, which is the second closest. Don't be too worried about distance though, as all airports are well connected to London. I'd rather take flights to Stansted Airport (which is quieter than Heathrow but much further away) than Heathrow (which is very busy).
The main airport near London is called London Heathrow (code letters LHR); there are also other airports near London: Gatwick (LGW), Luton (LTN), Stansted (STN), plus London City Airport (LCY) which is a very small airport located near London's financial district.
Could be Andorra, still a very small country though (80,000 or so), smaller than most towns. Nearby airports are Barcelona (Spain) and Toulouse (France).
An airport.
According to both an on-line taxi fare calculator (http:/www.worldtaximeter.com/london), and a on-line journey planner (http:/maps.google.co.uk), London City Airport (only 12 miles away) would be the closest airport to St Pancras. The only potential problem is that London City is a relatively small airport, only servicing a limited number of locations, so may not be of any use to you, depending on where you're coming from. If this is the case, the nearest of the major London airports to St Pancras would be London Heathrow Airport (15 miles to St Pancras), compared to Luton Airport (25 miles), Gatwick Airport (32 miles) or Stansted Airport (38 miles).
