Japan is a peninsala so it is prone to earthquakes because, the land often rubs against the undersea floor, and so the vibrations cause the plates of the earth to be softer and more loose, which results in the area around Japan to be prone to the plates of the earth buckling, therefore resulting in a highert chance of earthquakes.
This is because Japan lies very close to a tectonic plate boundary. It is also in the 'Ring of Fire' area, which is an area stretching from New Zealand over and down to Peru and Chile. These areas are more likely to get earthquakes as they are close to Plate boundaries.
japan is sitting on a huge fault line
Japan has a lot of earthquakes because it is close to a major subduction zone where one tectonic plate slides under another one. The plates do not slide smoothly because of friction but every so often the pressure builds up and the plates move with a jerk, which results in an earthquake. Subduction zones are also characterised by volcanoes of which Japan has several.
Just below the surface of earth - lie huge sheets of rock called as 'tectonic plates' that are about 70 kilometers thick. These plates move a few centimeters ( an inch or two) producing distortions with the surface. When these distortions get large enough, natural forces try to correct them by themselves causing the plates to move suddenly. When this happens, earth shakes resulting in earthquakes!! And the worst is - if these distortions take place deep under the ocean - it causes tsunami waves, some of them are 20 feet tall - they are shallow waves, and move at the speed of 700 km an hour, gobbling whatever comes in the way - devastating material, men, communities!!
'A tsunami (pronounced su-nah-me) is a wave train, or series of waves, generated in a body of water by an impulsive disturbance that vertically displaces the water column. Earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, explosions, and even the impact of cosmic bodies, such as meteorites, can generate tsunamis. Tsunamis can savagely attack Coastlines, causing devastating property damage and loss of life.'
Look at the fact that - Japan as a country - is land/earth 'sitting' on the edge of five such tectonic plates and is prone to earthquakes all the time ( just like California is too!) But, let us look at the brighter side - the high rise buildings in Japan, especially in the coastal area - are best prepared to meet such eventualities - here, strict building codes apply!! Japan, after the 'Kobe earthquake' in 1995 has put in force great precautions and has spent extensive resources to ensure minimum damage happens! Japan has outfitted buildings with advanced devices called base isolation pads and energy dissipation units to dampen the ground's shaking during an earthquake. The country that gave the world the word 'tsunami' built concrete seawalls, some as high as 40 feet - as a first line of defense against the water. There are network of sensors placed/ set up to send immediate alarms to others - so as to caution other susceptible locations in the coastal area! Japan is well prepared; if it was India - I cannot imagine what would have happened. Mumbai is collection of islands (seven in all) and most of today's Mumbai is 'reclamation area'- i.e., sea filled with junk material to gain extra land - huh! if there is a earthquake/ tsunami in the Arabian Sea - most of Mumbai will be gobbled up! No other country is as well-prepared as Japan is!
Earthquakes occur in japan because of the two tectonic plates underneath the islands (of Japan) when they rub together it makes a earthquake
It's Simple,Japan is on that earthquake line thing :D
Because where they are in the world and the shape of the country.
There are fault lines in those areas, and when the earth's plates move, they cause earthquakes. There are two fault lines in San Francisco, but I do not know how much in Japan.
Japan. Tsunami's really don`t happen in most countries(Hawaii may vary). Earthquakes are popular in Japan,so yes.
As seen Recently on the telly there has been a huge earthquake of the coast of Japan. So Earthquakes are most common near the coast of Japan. I may not be correct as I have relied on the TV.
Japanese have one of the highest because earthquakes happen there frequently. So no Japan does not.
Japan gets tons of earthquakes, about one every year, because of Japan's position. Japan sits on a subduction zone, meaning plates slide under another causing friction and earthquakes. Sometimes, Japan will get a tsunami caused by their frequent earthquakes.
japan have so many earthquakes because it sits on 3 tectonic plates
japan
The mountains made the Japanese move to the coast to make their homes, and as a result, they started to eat a bunch of fish. The Ring of Fire is an area that has many earthquakes and volcanoes. It goes right through Japan, so that's why Japan has so many earthquakes and volcanoes. Also, the Ring of Fire's earthquakes and volcanoes shape Japan, and that's why it has so many mountains.

Yes, Japan is an earthquake-prone spot. Japan is more likely to have earthquakes than many other countries.
That's how life is
not enough money for schools since there were so many earthquakes.
Earthquakes are not only in Japan - they happen all over the world. In the last two years there have been notable earthquakes in Japan, China, New Zealand and many other places around the world.
There are many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions in Japan. ----

There are so many earthquakes in Japan because the country is in what is called the Pacific Ring of Fire which is an area where large numbers of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur in the basin of the Pacific Ocean. The Ring of Fire has 452 volcanoes and is home to over 75% of the world's active and dormant. Another reason why Japan has so many earquakes is because there are so many different tectonic plates (layers of the earth's crust) underneath it and each plate keeps rubbing with the other plates. Earthquakes cause a bit of damage but not a lot in Japan, this is because they have happened lots of times so people in Japan have managed create buildings that probabley won't get destroyed by an earthquake. Japan also has an Earthquake and tsunami warnings which are basically alarms so they knew when an earthquake was happening. most houses in Japan are made out of cheap, light materials so they won't kill people who are inside.
The Movement of Techtonic Plates causes the earthquakes in Japan.
