The Philippines is a republican democracy which has nothing to do with Republican and Democratic parties in the US. A democracy means you vote for your governments. And a republican form of democracy means you elect representatives to do your work. The alternative is a pure democracy where laws are voted by the people directly, someplace we may sadly end up one day due to the internet (why "sadly"? watch Jay Walking on the Jay Leno Show).
