Hi, While greed is at the forefront of my mind as well, you could take into consideration that some models are assembled in Mexico! You have to check the information on the door on some models or just ask the dealer and you can determine which models are assembled in Germany and which ones are assembled in Mexico. It's been my family's findings that the Mex models are sub par. I know the older Golfs and most Jetta's now (special editions excluded) are put together in Mexico, where the Passat still rolls off the line with the Audi A4's.

Are VW cars better quality than Honda cars?
VW have has a longer history than Honda and they have made good quality cars through out their history, however as seen in many surveys and tests Honda have been at the top of customer satisfaction and reliability (as well as Honda owner & vw owner). VW built quality is very good as seen top of the class hatchbacks such as golfs, Honda's engines have a extremely low failure rate though out their history. Old Honda's are just as well built as old VWs (achieving similar mileage), however, newer Honda's have simple technology and components fitted to their cars which can achieve high quality than new VWs. Hond's can also take careless driving and bad maintainence and still go ahead without major issues. overall Honda's have better quality as their selling point for most Honda drivers is bullet proof reliability. whereas VWs are much more advanced in future technology. but still are reasonably well built.

Inspecting quality means that you are not fixing the root cause of the problem. If you make a part, and inspect it to make sure that it meets the specifications required, you find parts that are bad. These are scrap, wasted materials and lost effort. If you find a bad part and fix what is causing it to be bad in the manufacturing process, you eliminate the waste, saving time, effort and materials and improving the profit margins.
