It does not have to be someone or something related to politics, it can be someone that contributed to society. Alexander Graham Bell's and John Wayne's birthplaces are also historical sites. In the South some of the antebellum mansions are registered historical places because of the architecture and their age. Some places are historical because they were part of the founding of a city, such as first court house, bank or school.
