In many nations there is a conflict between religions and the political endeavours of the government. Examples of these conflicts are certainly world wide and span all types of conflicts. The answer to this question is not a statement supporting any religion nor condemning any government. The answer is an observation only. In other words, I have No preference for what I deem to be "observations.

With that in mind, Here is a sampling of conflicts between religion and politics: (please note the term of politicsused here refers to a governments political policies or its obligations to act in accordance of laws and customs)

A. In the United States, as one example, the US Constitution forbids itself from creating a State religion and not to impede the practice of the peoples' religions.

1. In the US, Christian holidays, in the case of Christmas, is a Federal holiday. Additionally, in many US school districts, there are perhaps two Jewish holidays that cause the district schools to be closed. The American holiday of Thanksgiving is a Federal, State & local holiday. The latter was declared a National holiday by Abraham Lincoln.

1a. When any US government, whether it be Federal, State or local closes down a government in honor of a religious holiday it is being selective and prejudicial against persons of other religions, whose important religious holidays are not recognized. The Greek Orthodox religion case is seen next.

For the longest time the Americans belonging to the Greek Orthodox Christian have celebrated Christmas on January 6.

In late September school districts, State & local close down schools in honor of two Jewish holidays.

The creation of the national holiday of Thanksgiving was a declaration by US President Lincoln. This holiday was lobbied for by a group of radical Republican Christians who wanted a Protestant festival become a "National festival". The holiday was meant to be an endorsement of Protestantism. It was not a festival for Catholics or Jews.

To place this in the proper prospective, and not be accused of bad intent, the radicals pressing for Thanksgiving also lobbied Lincoln and others to change the US Constitution to read that the United States was a Protestant nation. Happily Lincoln did not support changing the Constitution for that idea.

In each of the cases presented above, and it is important to note that they are examples not meant to cover all situations. The purpose here is to demonstrate how conflicts between religious groups and conflicts between government politics also creates additional problems. Most of these items are swept under the rug,

The writer is a Christian and believes that religious holidays are a personal matter and that governments should allow for time off at work or school to celebrate these holidays without the governments' closing down.

The negative reactions in the US is mild regarding these conflicts in comparison to some of the conflicts between religion and politics world wide...

Many nations, however, have no negative reactions to policies that are similar to the USA.

Conflict between religion and politics arises due to differences in beliefs, values, and priorities. Religion often involves deeply held personal convictions and moral principles that are not always aligned with political ideologies. When these conflicting viewpoints collide, it can lead to disagreements and tensions as each side seeks to assert its influence and protect its interests. Additionally, the intertwining of religion and politics can sometimes lead to abuses of power, discrimination, and violations of human rights.
