Corn was grown in the 1800's because food was scarce and they needed to survive so they grew corn.
Yes, more corn can be grown, so it is renewable as a resource.
Yes, more corn can be grown, so it is renewable as a resource.
Maize is corn, so it is planted, grown, then harvested.
Example is that much of the corn grown in the US is grown as the only crop grown on a piece of land year after year. There is no crop rotation with other crops, so the land becomes depleted of nutrients that corn uses, and more dependent on fertilization, more dense, and lacking of forms of life.
Because sugarcane can only be grown in a very limited area of the US, unlike corn, which can be grown over a much larger percentage of the country. Also, from a political viewpoint, there are many more corn farmers than sugarcane farmers, so they have much more influence on the legislators involved.
Growing corn can be bad for the soil (APEX)
Ethanol comes from corn, we all know that. But the problem created by using ethanol as a biofuel is that it puts a greater demand on corn stocks which can and will go to the point where demand is much higher than supply. Corn is also grown as a foodstuff for humans and a feedstuff for livestock. So when you get a demand for ethanol AND a demand for corn as a food and feed, problems like availability for ethanol production become very difficult and more of an ethical and food issue than anything. Only so much corn can be grown every year and corn can be grown only in certain areas, so using ethanol as a biofuel alone is an inconceivable feat in itself. Other biofuels or alternative energy sources for vehicles must be conceived in order for corn to be freed up for use as food.
Corn needs large plots of land to be economically viable as a crop, so it is not grown commercially in any cities.
There is so much corn in a litre you will poop yourself.
I don't have a list yet but you can be pretty sure that snacks made with corn from the USA have GMO corn in them. I have read that about 97% of corn grown in the US is GMO. So, Cheetos, Doritos and other snacks imported from the US. You will need to discover the source of the corn which is in Philippine products such as Chippy. I read that GMO corn has been tested but I don't know if GMO corn is grown in the Philippines. In the US GMO soybeans are also grown. So, be careful of imported soy ingredients.
