By the numbers:

  1. You share the road with several million others and there are countless variables, any of which can lead to a collision.
  2. You are operating a several thousand pound vehicle with nothing between you and your ability to avoid collisions but how you can deal with, and how quickly you can respond to the countless variables you encounter.
  3. Physics are unforgiving. Inertia is as relentless as karma. If you screw up, the only thing that is likely to keep you or anyone around you from serious injury is a truly apathetic vehicle manufacturing industry. If you doubt that, do an image search of automobile collisions, and look for all the Chevy Malibus. Shouldn't be too hard, and the first page is likely to contain at least 25% images of that vehicle alone.
  4. In the US the infrastructure is crumbling. Recent reports in one metropolitan Michigan area noted that 330 of the total 360 miles of roads in the city were approaching dangerous to impassable. Additionally, 80% of the nations bridges are in a serious state of disrepair.
