Well there is a variety of reasons too long to say here. First off, your body is designed to adapt to the environment. Exercise challenges your body to adapt, whether it's bigger/ stronger muscles, a better cardiovascular system, or a stronger heart. When you get older or your diet is sub-par, your body progressively gets weaker. Without exercise to challenge your body to counteract it getting weaker, your risk for Heart disease (weak heart), lung disease (poor cardiovascular system), obesity (which causes a slue of health issues), Diabetes, and even cancer.
It's good for you heath because it keeps you in shape. So you don't AlWAYS have to go on a diet.
