The reason is because the government doesn't want to spend money drilling in Alaska. Which has a big pocket of oil. We have to import it from countries that have already drilled for oil and cleaned. The government wants to help out the Middle East because its poor so we pay more for it than we need to and the gas companies want nothing but money, and more money.
