The quicker they are functioning, the lower the emissions will be.
Catalytic converters are used to reduce emissions, however they only work at high temperatures, while they are warming up they do not reduce emissions, so the quicker they are functioning, the lower the emissions will be.
It is possible, just not likely.
Replacement catalytic converters can be purchased though a number of automobile parts vendors. Vendors such as Auto Zone, O'Reily's, and Advanced Auto. Online marketplaces such as eBay and Amazon also have this item being listed as for sale.
Mostly on cars, to transform some of the exhaust into slightly less nasty stuff. But they can be used in chemical industry as well, wherever a catalytic conversion is possible and desirable.
In the chemical industry and the industrial research, catalysis play an important role. The different catalysts are in constant development to fulfill economic, political and environmental demands. When using a catalyst it is possible to replace a polluting chemical reaction with a more environmental friendly alternative. Today, and in the future this can be vital for the chemical industry. The catalysts could help in accelerating chemical reactions and/or making it possible at lower temperatures.
Excess fuel can super-heat the converter causing the converter to meltdown. The excess fuel can be the result of many possible engine malfunctions. The converter meltdown would result in blocked exhaust flow resulting in power loss. At this point the converters are junk. Do not just replace the converters without correcting the cause.
YES - It can, but it is illegalWhile it might be illegal, let's not provide FALSEanswers based on legality on Answers.com.Better Gas MileageSince catalytic converter removal allows for exhaust gases to exit a car's engine at increased speeds, engine back-pressure is reduced, which lessens engine strain. This reduction in engine back-pressure and engine strain enables an engine to work more easily, and thus reduces fuel consumption and increases gas mileage. Lower Engine Operating TemperatureSince removing a catalytic converter lessens the burden on a car's engine by enabling engine exhaust to vacate the engine more easily, a net effect is a reduction in engine operating temperature. The more easily an engine functions and the less work it has to do results in less friction, less load and, ultimately, a lower operating temperature. More Fuel OptionsCars equipped with catalytic converters run only on unleaded gasoline. Lead-based gasoline, which produces more power and better engine combustion, quickly destroys the inner catalyst materials of catalytic converters. A car with no catalytic converter will be able to run on a variety of lead-based and/or high-performance fuels that would not be possible with a catalytic converter. Healthier Exhaust SoundCatalytic converters operate like car mufflers, whose sole purpose is to muffle the sound of exiting engine exhaust gases. Although catalytic converters burn unburned exhaust gases exiting an engine, thus making tail pipe emissions cleaner, they also further muffle a car's exhaust sound and bestow a somewhat timid, tempered exhaust sound. Without a catalytic converter, a car's exhaust sound becomes a little louder, a little deeper and more distinctive.
It is possible however unlikely. Catalytic converters are built to last many years. You did not state what year the vehicle is but if it is 1996 or newer the malfunction code can be retrieved with an OBDII scanner ( some auto parts stores will do it for free ), older than that and you might have to pick up a manual to learn how to get the information as each manufacturer was different then.
Yes, they go almost as fast as cars without them. OMG, that was so funny telecaster. But to answer the asker's question, catalytic converters eliminate 99% of the CO, carbon monoxide, in emissions. While technically still possible, unburnt gasoline would make the air too unbearable to breathe long before any risk of CO poisoning.
Yes it is possible.
Seeing as this is in the car section....if this question is to see if its possible to extract the tiny amount of platinum from the ceramic lattice inside stolen catalytic converters, the answer is; you dont. Aside from destroying someone else's property by stealing the converter off their car, you will probably start a house fire trying to do it.
There's no possible way to pass inspection with a bad catalytic converter, if if you find out you have a bad catalytic converter during your inspection you have a chance after you after you have replaced the catalytic converter and the inspection no no charge/free!!
