Why is my 1989 ram d150's transmission leaking between the motor and trans at the bottom but still shifts?

A tranmsission leak from the bell housing will require trans removal to know cause of leak. It could be pump gasket, torque converter hub seal, or a cracked housing.

Manual transmission are a sealed system. You should not have to add fluid ( which is about 80 weight gear lube) unless you are leaking fluid from the transmission. This lube is heavy and thick and usually smell. If you do have to fill the transmission there should be a plug on the side of the transmission that you would remove and fill till it over flows at the plug hole. If its not leaking, and shifts ok leave a sleeping dog lay. fill hole is on top not side, and there should be a dipstick w/ level marks. DON'T USE 80W OIL. Will make your belts slip
