Why is my 1997 ford expedition gear shift will not go into park?

Had the same problem with my 97 yesterday, I also found a hex bolt on the floorboard. As it turns out there are multiple right angle bolts controlling the shifter movement and one had fallen out. My mechanic charged me $55 to reinstall the bolt and tighten the others. Good Luck!
This is how to repair: If you climb under the dash on the drivers side with a flash light, look right above the steering column and you will see a brass colored bracket attached to the shifter. If your bolt fell out you will recognize it. There are two. Replace the one that fell out, and slowly tighten the bolts back into place ensuring the surfaces are flush. I have a picture, wish I could post it. There is no good luck, just do it!
