The clicking sound is coming from the actuator motor that controls the blend door. It's common for the connector to the plastic blend door to break, causing this symptom. This door regulates the amount of air that is diverted through the heater core and depending on how it breaks, it can also cause strange air flow problems.
This is a very common failure on this model and the fix from the dealer requires removing the plenum box and replacing the air flow components. This is a labor intensive process and expect to pay around a thousand dollars for the fix. There is an aftermarket kit that accomplishes the same fix and replaces the plastic components with a metal replacement. It won't break again and is much much less expensive than the Ford method.
Your heater core is leaking in it's housing box and blowing moist air through the heater/defroster. Try bardall radiator stop leak. If no help, install new heater core. Chuck.
If the defroster is blowing hot air and it is still leaving moisture on the inside of the windshield, the heater core may be leaking coolant causing that condition. If the defroster is blowing cold air it could be the cooling system is low on coolant, or the thermostat is stuck open or the heater core is plugged up or the temp blend door has a malfunction.
The little vents (or flaps) inside the heater system are stuck, broken, lost power (they're vacuum motors).
Depending on the year, make and model check the following.............. 1. A/C heater control door. 2. Cables and vacuum lines. 3. A/C heater control panel.
no
On the passengers side floor board or if the heater core just has a small crack then it will fog up the windshield when the defroster is turned on and smell very bad......
could be head gasket problem. does your heater work? might need heater core , clogged up. do compression test. or bypass heater core and see if that works.
I have a 2004 Ford Explorer and the heat does not work, but when i try to turn the control valve to heat it makes a clicking noise. How do i fix it?
The diverter, or blend, door, is not working properly, The door is either feeding the heat through the defroster, or closing the heat completely off.
the defroster is actually your a/c. it doesn't run much when it's cold outside but it works with your heater to remove the moisture from inside the car. blowing warm dry air on the windshield. just like it removes the moisture (humidity) from inside the car in the summer. the difference is the temp. you have it on. even if the a/c don't work, the heater will still do the job, just not quite as well.
Why the heater or defroster may not work in a 1993 Chevy Caprice Classic because of the heating core is going out.
why is heater on 1995 explorer lukewarm
