I had a similar problem with my 95 town car about 6 months after I had a shop rebuild the transmission. In my case...there is a thin cable that goes between the transmission and the shift lever...it attaches to the base of the shift lever with a setscrew on the steering column. The setscrew had not been tightened with "locktight" when the shop put the transmission back in, so eventually it loosened up.
The problem first appeared that the shift lever was kind of loose, and over a period of a few weeks eventually loosened so I was still in neutral even if I moved the shift lever all the way down to the lowest gear.
Resolution was to tighten the screw. Not easy to get to, I did manage to get car into gear, went to the shop, and one of their techs laid on his back half out of the car, half on the driver seat floor, and managed to reach up, apply locktite, and tighten the screw (of course after adjusting so the shift lever was aligned properly.)
So you can probably fix this yourself if you're somewhat limber and good at working by feel with your hands and a screwdriver.
Good luck!
shifter rod gear linkage
Check steering wheel It may be stuck Turn hard back and forth
Ummmm, the shift cable broke or came off the lever under the dash?
4th gear
It may just be a screw came loose underneath your gear shifter. That is what happened to me. Just slide the stuff up to the top of your gear shifter and look underneath. If one of the bolts is udone, just simple put it back on.
Not really describing answer , but i would assume you shifter cables have broken
The shifter linkage is loose or the drive gear is worn out.
1. shifter 2. tcm through valve body
transmission shift bolt loose try pushing gear shifter all the way back to park
A 2003 Ford F-250 column gear shifter can be fixed by simply tightening it again. You can tighten it by turning the adjustment wheel on the lower right side of the steering column.
I have the similar situation on my shifter on my 1991 pontiac sunbird 2.0 Liter. The shifter was kinda loose last two year, but it shifted fine. However, 2 days ago. When I put in "Park" gear, it was still moving forward, I put in "Rear" gear, it felt like in "Park", when I put in "Drive" gear, it felt like in "neutral". And the shifter is sometimes very loose, but back to normal when I put the shifter back and forth. I took it to a transmission store, they found out the "shift linkage cable" from the shift to the transmission was broken. I changed it today and so far no problem.
if you mean it wont go into gear and it grinds like a sob but other gears still work synchronizers. if you mean the shifter is loose an cant find the gear anymore - linkage. if it wont go into any gear sounds like a clutch problem
