That is where the engineers who designed the car decided to put it. It could be because of lack of under hood space, or it could be to keep the battery cooler.

battery is behind the front left wheel. You have to remove the wheel to replace the battery. (you can access the battery w/out removing the wheel, but you can't actually get the battery out unless you take the wheel off.) Once the wheel is off, remove the inner-fender well mud-guard and you will see the battery just forward of the wheel well. From there it's pretty straight forward. Hope this helps!

I think you have to take the tire off to change it if you call your local auto zone,advanced or pep bpoys they can tell you real quick because they offer free battery replacement and they know exactly which models of Chrysler put it behind the wheel ,they hate 'em
