The Bayeux Tapestry is a useful primary resource because it was made by people who were around at the time, which is what makes it primary. It is useful because it is one of few pieces of evidence used to represent what happened.

What was bad about William the conqurors claim to the throne?

Its bad because of problems with the evidence that he is the rightful claimant. The Bayeux Tapestry depicts that Harold offered the throne to William in the form of an oath. However, The Bayeux Tapestry doesn't explain why Harold was in Normandy, nor does it illustrate what the oath he swore was. Moreover, the Tapestry was made during 1070's and therefore not close to the event date. The other source that portrays Williams Claim was through William of Poitiers even though he was not present.

What is one possible of using the tapestry as a historical source?

A tapestry could be used as a primary source. The fabric used and the theme can tell historians a lot, but not the entire story. Example is the Unicorn Tapestries are among the most beautiful and complex works of art from the late Middle Ages. There is a lot of symbolism in the work and yet historians have to guess at meanings and who made it. To understand sources historians have to understand what happened in history the Bayeux tapestry does exactly that .

Is a medieval tapestry a primary source?

Yes, they are considered to be primary sources. Perhaps one of the best examples of this is the Bayeux tapestry which depicts the Norman conquest of England. Tapestries are not to be underestimated as source material as despite their pictorial format they provide information about the sort of views that were contemporary with the historical event you're looking into. For example, within the Bayeux tapestry you will find King Harold as being referred to as "Rex" which is the Latin for King. However, by the end of the 11th century Norman sources do not actually refer to him as a King. In this sense you can see how chroniclers are presentinghistory to fit the views of the Norman house.
