It is the very basis and core of our faith. Without it, there would be no Catholicism.

Catholic AnswerAlthough I dislike disagreeing with someone, I have to mention that the Catholic Church IS NOT based on The Bible, you have that backwards, the Bible is based on the Catholic Church. Only the Catholic Church has the fullness of Our Blessed Lord's teaching, some of that teaching was written down in the first century after the Crucifixion, but only some of. Then the Church decided in the fifth century, which books were actually part of the Bible, and which were spurious. Then for the next ten centuries the Church scrupulously copied and recopied the precious books which make up our Bible. Our Blessed Lord gave St. Peter, as his vicar, complete authority over the Church, backed up with the Holy Spirit. The Bible contains everything that is read for the readings at Mass and, as it says in St. Timothy: "All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, for reproving, for correcting, for instructing in justice; that the man of God may be perfect, equipped for every good work." St. Timothy 3:16. However, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible is the actual word of God in God's own words- but it is certainly not all of them, as it says in the Bible, itself: "There are, however, many other things that Jesus did; but if every one of these should be written, not even the world itself, I think, could hold the books that would have to be written." St. John 21:25

Symbolically, the church is the "wife" of Jesus Christ:

"For a husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the Head of His Body, the church..." (Eph.5:23 NLT New Living Translation)

In that perspective, the church is "carrying and bearing the Children of God!"

It's her responsiblility to her Husband to "be as healthy and obedient" to her Husband as she can be [spiritually, with the correct Knowledge and Understanding of the Word of God; the Bread of Life, the nourishment the sustains the spirit in man, through obedience to Christ] so that her Children "growing and developing within her," spiritually, may become the Perfect Children of God, to one day be born IMMORTAL when Jesus Christ, their DELIVERER, comes back.

"For His Holy Spirit speaks to us [the children in God's church] deep in our hearts and tells us that WE ARE GOD'S CHILDREN. And since we are His Children, we will share His treasures - for everything God gives to His Son, Christ, IS OURS, TOO. But if we are to share His Glory, we must also share His suffering." (Rom.8:16-17 NLT)

Answer

The Church of the Bible is so important because without the Church, there would be no Bible. It is the Church that wrote the Bible in the first century, discerned which books were to go into it (this was mostly decided from the books that were used for readings at Mass), and then gave its approval to it at the Council of Rome in A.D. 382, by Pope Damasus I. Then for the following 16-17 centuries, it is the Church which preserved and interpreted the Bible. The Bible is one of the main preaching tools of the Church, without the Church there is no Bible, and without the Church's guarantee you can't know what the Bible is, and without the Church's teaching, you cannot have the correct interpretation of the Bible.

Roman Catholic AnswerThe Bible is of great importance to Catholics, it is the Word of God (which is Our Blessed Savior) in the very Words of God. The Catholic Church wrote the New Testament for use in the Mass and there is a reading from the Old Testament, a Psalm, and a reading from the Gospels at every Mass, on Sunday there is one from the Old Testament, plus a Psalm, a reading from the New Testament, and the Gospel.

from

The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 1994101 In order to reveal himself to men, in the condescension of his goodness God speaks to them in human words: "Indeed the words of God, expressed in the words of men, are in every way like human language, just as the Word of the eternal Father, when he took on himself the flesh of human weakness, became like men." (Dei Verbum 13)

102 Through all the words of Sacred Scripture, God speaks only one single Word, his one Utterance in whom he expresses himself completely:

(Cf. Heb 1:1-3)

You recall that one and the same Word of God extends throughout Scripture, that it is one and the same Utterance that resounds in the mouths of all the sacred writers, since he who was in the beginning God with God has no need of separate syllables=; for he is not subject to time. (St. Augustine, En. in Ps. 103, 4, 1: PL 37, 1378; cf. Ps 104; Jn 1:1)

Why was Luther's translation of the Bible into German so important?

The translation of the Bible into German was important because, prior to this, it was only really available in Latin. Since the majority of people could not understand Latin, this meant that the Bible (and also church services and rites, which were also in Latin) were incomprehensible to them. By translating the Bible into the language of the people, Martin Luther made it accessible to them and allowed them to read and interpret it on their own, rather than through the intermediary of the Catholic church.

Why is heresy important?

Since Heresy means beliefs that contradict the official teachings of a religion or church; one who holds such beliefs is called a heretic, people would argue against the Church because of the church's indulgences. John Wycliffe believed that the Bible was a source to interpretations not the bible. So, many people were crucified and burned.

Why is it so important for christians to go to church on Sundays?

According to the Bible, it is the day that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and is considered the Lord's day (the Bible states "the first day of the week"). The early church and Apostles used the synagogues on Sundays to meet as well as church member's houses. It is important to note that the synagogues were IN USE on Saturdays, as this is the Jewish Sabbath. Many times in the New Testament, Paul notes that the Law was considered dead with Christ's resurrection, therefore, including following the Law of Moses (see Galations especially, as well as Romans). So, this means that there is no Christian Sabbath.
