Why is the question what was Kenya before it became a country unanswered?

It was a British protectorate and was called British East Africa until 1963. I would imagine the reason the question has not been answered has something to do with the validity of Barack Obama's birth certificate. From what I have read, it was called "Kenya Colony" but I do not know when it began being called "Kenya" as it is today. Because of the controversy over the birth certificate, you can probably get Kenyans and other knowledgeable people who were alive at that time who will give you different answers.
