Define West and East. On the West coast, The weather there is influenced from warm ocean currents that provide decent weather for most of the year. The North American jet streams travel from west to east, so as air travels farther inland, and away from the ocean, it loses some of the moisture and the temperature it had on the west coast.

As air travels over the rocky mountains, it condenses, and leaves an opening for cold air fronts from Canada to move south, clashing from warm air rising from the Gulf of Mexico. In the winter this clash results in weather systems and snow in the Midwest and Eastern United States
