The yolk in usually said to be yellow, though due to a different diet, free-run egg yolks are usually a more orange colour than the eggs from chickens eating layer pellets. Some people prefer this colouring, and the fact that the chickens are not mistreated, as a reason to buy free-run eggs over eggs from chickens raised in battery cages, despite the usually higher price.

This green outer layer of yolk is because the egg was overcooked. It is still fine to eat, its just doesn't look great.
