Why is there water in the oil in a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am?

Not a good thing.This is not a good thing. You may also have white smoke pouring out of your exhaust pipe during heavy acceleration. water in the oil usually means you have a cracked engine head. Water is getting into your combustion chambers as well. You need to replace the engine head or possibly engine block. pfft...it's a well known fact that the water pumps on the quad 4's are very unreliable and when (not if, when) they break they leack coolant into your oil just replace your watter pump and youll be ok. also if you do a lot of very short drives say 15 min just long enought that the engine doesn't really warm up much then that will contribute to the problem if it isn't all the problem but this would only cause small amounts of white buildup the water pump problem will for lots easily as much as a cracked dylender head
