I had an 89, great vehicle 289,000k. Some one stole it, and destroyed it. Some things that will help:
Hope this helps.

In the coolant reservoir up by the firewall.
Coolant level is probably low, Have it checked for an antifreeze leak.
Look just below the water pump to see if any antifreeze is visible. Water pumps will sometimes leak and drip out antifreeze. Check the engine oil to see if antifreeze is mixed with the oil, indicating a blown head gasket.
Probably a cracked head.
No, any antifreeze/coolant will do.

I just did it in my 1994 Grand Cherokee. It's pretty simple. A new reservoir cost me $34 at my local Jeep dealer. It's pretty much a matter of disconnecting the hose, unscrewing the old one, screwing in the new one, and reconnecting the hose. Took me less than an hour.
Overheating the engine shouldn't effect the transmission. Overheating the transmission could.
It is on the bottom of the reservoir.
2 gallons
No, the rear fluid comes out of the front reservoir.
Open windshield washer reservoir, add fluid, close reservoir...
