You could have a blown head gasket, if the thermostat wasn't letting coolant through to the radiator, the engine overheats, and the head gasket no longer seals. OR the overheat could have been so bad that the head could have warped, this is very easy for an aluminum head to do. OR the head cracks in between the intake and exhaust valves, this is the most likely possibility, exhaust gasses entering the coolant at 700 deg.+ will most definetly cause the car to over heat. Good Luck
There is and easy fix pull your thermostat and drill two holes in the termostat and orient one up and one down. This will allow the trapped air to get to the coolant tank. Relpace the gasket if its old and hardened.
If your 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora keeps overheating and the issue is not the thermostat or the water pump, it could be the cooling fan. It might also be the radiator (leaking) or the hoses between the engine and radiator, or the shroud could be clogged or damaged.
my 2001 ford windstar is still overheating even though i changed out the thermostat. what could it be?
check or replace thermostat
My 2001 Nissan frontier 3.3 v6 engine is overheating. I changed the thermostat but it still overheats.
A thermostat that is stuck in the closed position is a very common cause of overheating. A new thermostat should be installed every time the coolant is changed.
water pump. thermostat.
stop an engine
Check the thermostat first. I had an intermittent overheating problem on my 02 for almost a year, changed the thermostat and it never happened again. If that doesn't work, secondly I would check the water pump.
that is not a question
Either the water pump impeller is loose on it's shaft, or you have a leaking head gasket.
Sell It!!!!!
