Can be loose or corroded battery cables. If you see a bulge in one of the cables, replace it. Can also be a defective starter. If the engine is turning over as it should but is just hard to start, you have a fuel problem. Replace the fuel filter first thing. You may also have weak spark plugs or plug wires. Depends on the age of the vehicle and mileage. ==ANOTHER ANSWER== It's difficult to determine what is wrong from just a description, but if you mean that the starter does not turn the engine as fast as you think it should there are only a few possibilities.

1. The battery could be in good shape but have an insufficient charge. If you're certain that the alternator is functioning properly, that's not the problem. Use a voltmeter and test the voltage with the engine running. You should be able to produce about 14.5 volts under normal conditions with the engine running at about 1000 rpm and just about everything on. (the big power consumers are the rear window defrost, blower and lights)

2. The starter motor could be severely worn and "dragging". When the bushings are worn out the starter motor will not turn easily and it can sound like a dead battery. You'll need to check the starter to see if it's pulling too much current. There are special meters for that, don't try to use your multimeter.

3. If the alternator is functioning properly and the starter isn't drawing too much current the only other option is that the starter isn't getting enough current. That can be caused by either a faulty battery or a bad connection.

Alternator is good jumped the car ran but will not restart replaced the battery and it will barely light the dash what am I missing?

could be a short or a parasitic drain in the electrical system... to little info to tell what it is. could be bad earth from battery

Why are the headlights on your 1996 blazer so dim?

Loose ground connection or more than likely an alternator that is barely working . Have the alternator checked at any Auto Parts Store or check it yourself. Connect a multimeter set to the 20 volt DC scale to the battery with the engine running at idle. You should read from 13.5 to 15.5 volts. Any less and the alternator is failing and needs replacing. Also make sure the alternator drive belt is not slipping.

I put a brand new alternator and battery into a 1992 volkswagen cabriolet. it worked for about a week and now the battery will barely charge and the battery keeps dying. what might be the problem?

I also have had trouble with my battery and alternator with my 92 Cabriolet. If the car sits for a couple of days the battery will be so dead the car won't start. I have replaced both parts more than once with no change. I don't have an answer for you but wonder if there is some problem with this year of the Cabriolet.I have an 83 Cabriolet that has the same issues. My alternator is fine, it's been replaced twice and checked 3 times so it's not the alternator itself. Check the wiring, especially grounds, it's a good idea to replace them if they are originals, they easily could be the culprits. Also it might very well be the voltage regulator, if it's not working the way it should it can mess up the juice going into your alternator making it dysfunctional. Check fuses and relays too. All of these are pretty cheap to fix and aren't hard to do yourself. Go to Autozone and have them test your alternator, it's a very good way to finding if something going to your alternator is not working properly.

What causes the fuel gauge temperature gauge odometer speedometer not to work when starting a 1999 Alero this happens intermittently?

I recently had a similar issue with my 1999 Alero 2.4L. It started the previous day with the battery light coming ON all of a sudden. We suspected the alternator was going bad. So, the next day decided to take it to AutoZone to get the alternator tested but on the way all of the sensors started going off (beeping, turning ON, etc.) Next, all the guages (fuel, temp, speed, tach, oil press) stopped registering and were sitting at 0. The turn lights were barely working and their sound was barely audible, the car sounded very strange and the A/C went off. Apparently the alternator had completely died and the battery was being drained. So I got the battery replaced and bought an alternator from AutoZone. Replacing it was very easy and took only about 30 to 40 mins. AutoZone refunded the core charge of $40 when I gave them my old alternator. So the cost of the new one was $104. The car works great now and the guages and all are back to normal. Hope this helps.

I haven't Driven my car in 1 year and and barely turned it on its a 97 hatchback Honda is my car gonna have problems when i turn it on and start driving it What should i do?

Your car's battery may not run properly. You can remove the battery and take it to be tested before starting the car.

I have a 1997 Plymouth breeze 2 0 liter that will not start It makes no noise when i turn the key. It has been working fine all day Tried to start car now and nothing happens whats the problem?

If you get no lights or anything, the battery is dead. It sounds like the alternator has failed, at which point the battery starts to fade until it is completely dead. The battery is located under the air filter. To access, you remove the front left wheel, remove the inner fender panel, then you will see the battery. I would remove the alternator & battery and have them tested at a parts store. If bad, replace them both. If the battery passes and it is fairly new (less then 2 years), charge it up FULLY before reinstalling it. If it just barely passed, replace it because it will overwork the new alternator.

1996 dodge neon won't start full of gas oil water and all vital fluids fuel pump hums indicating it's working check of timing belt ok yet car will barely turn over as if the battery is weak any ideas?

Maybe the battery is weak. Possibly the starter has failed, the alternator has stopped recharging the battery or the battery may just be worn out. Batteries typically don't last more than 5 or 6 years. If you have a volt meter, test the battery voltage, first with the engine off. It should be a full 12 volts and possibly a little over. If the battery voltage is down you either need a new alternator or battery. Jump start the vehicle and test the voltage while YOUR engine is running/disconnected from the other car. If you have 13.5 volts (approximately) the alternator is ok. If it's below 12 volts with the engine running, the alternator is toast. At that point, if you haven't figured out anything, take the vehicle to an auto parts retailer to have them test the charging system. Remember that when working properly a battery is only a storage device for electrical energy. If the alternator doesn't recharge the battery, the battery will have nothing to store.

Has Uluru changed?

yes but barely noticeable cos of the weathering stuff going on

Why is it my battery will barely turn the motor over and when it does start you have to pump the gas pedal to keep it running?

The battery is weak and needs replaced. when the battery is weak the computer can forget how to idle.

What causes the EPC warning light to come on occasionally on your 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cylinder gas?

My epc light came on because of battery failure. My battery was acting funny and barely starting the car. I went to autozone and had them check my battery which ended up having a bad cell. I replaced the battery and the car easily started up. After the car started the light never came back on.

Are crocodiles today the same as crocodiles millions of years ago?

Yes - they have barely changed from their prehistoric ancestors.

Your 1996 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L is barely turning over but the battery is fine What else could it be?

Maybe your starter.
