I recently had a similar issue with my 1999 Alero 2.4L. It started the previous day with the battery light coming ON all of a sudden. We suspected the alternator was going bad. So, the next day decided to take it to AutoZone to get the alternator tested but on the way all of the sensors started going off (beeping, turning ON, etc.) Next, all the guages (fuel, temp, speed, tach, oil press) stopped registering and were sitting at 0. The turn lights were barely working and their sound was barely audible, the car sounded very strange and the A/C went off. Apparently the alternator had completely died and the battery was being drained. So I got the battery replaced and bought an alternator from AutoZone. Replacing it was very easy and took only about 30 to 40 mins. AutoZone refunded the core charge of $40 when I gave them my old alternator. So the cost of the new one was $104. The car works great now and the guages and all are back to normal. Hope this helps.
not quit positive
1. occurring in spells and often abruptly2. intermittently stopping and starting
I believe starting on the 1996 Explorer , it went to an electronic speedometer with a vehicle speed sensor ( VSS ) so it doesn't have a conventional speedometer cable
Intermittently is the term for stopping and starting, like windshield wipers that aren't going full blast.
ok its either have your odometer set on miles, then turn ingition switch off press and hold your reset button (the one to reset your miles in the dash near the speedometer), then tunr iginiton switch on and wait for the dashes in the instriment cluster to quit falshing and display 0000000 then release the button.the other optoion is the same process but set your odometer on trip A before starting
This temperature is at your choice depending on the application.
This means that you are 100 miles past a service. Service the vehicle, (oil change) and then reset the odometer according to the owners manual. This may take several tries
You have to take apart the instrument cluster, starting with the steering wheel and working forward.
Sorry, that is illegal. But you could always cut the front end of the car off starting @ the bottom of the windshield, that ought to do it ;)
Press and hold the odometer reset button, & turn on the ignition switch without starting the car. After around 5 seconds the light will reset. Release the odometer reset button and turn the ignition off.
It is possible that the dome light needs to be replaced on the Dodge Neon if the odometer is flashing the word fuse. If the car is also not starting this could be caused by a bad starter or bad battery.
This is for a '95 and similar vintage vehicles: Check to see if the speedometer also fluctualtes, it may be minimal and not obvious. The speed sensor is on the transmission, accessible from the right side. If it is starting to go, any drop in signal will cancel the cruise control settings and the car will suddenly decelerate as though you killed it. A reset at speed will hold as long as the speed sensor is delivering a signal. Good luck!
