Why is my download speed slower than it should be?

Download speed changes from one computer to another depending on the internet connection speed on the computer the internet speed can range from 56kb/s on the modem dial up connection up to 10 mb/s used in large companies, mostly in my country Lebanon the speed is 256kb/s using DSL connection which if divided by 8 gives a download speed of about 32 kb/s. if you want to know waht is the download speed divide your connection by 8. finally the more the internet connection speed increases, the more the download speed increases.

and in some cases if the connection is fast however the download is still slow this can be the result of viruses and some programs that can exploit your connection and use it to contact theitr vendors for advertisments and stuff...

There are many reasons for that problem.Start checking for all the following problems one by one:

• The problem might be from the internet service provider side.Call up you I.S.P and find what is the speed that you are provided with.If the speed that you are provided is around 3 mbps then you need to check at website speedtest.net to know what is the actual speed you are getting.
  if the speed you are getting is around 700kbps to 1mbps or more then the speed you are getting is decent.If the speed is much more less than that then you need to complain about that.
• If everything is okay with your I.S.P then check for virus,malwares,spywares in you computer and clean them.
• If everything is okay with all the tips then you might like to remove the programs which uses the internet in the background and other plugins for your browser.More numbers of plugins in your browser make your system slow.
• Check that the wiring of the modem or the other device you are using is okay and connected nicely.
• You should not download any program that claims to increase internet speed.
• It also depends which software you are using to download.If you want to download the torrents then always use BitTorrent.
• If you are downloading using web browser then you should use either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
• Keep you java and flash player updated.You can download both from the websites of the respective companies. Flash Player is by Adobe and Java can be downloaded from java.com.
• Increase your RAM is your computer hangs while downloading.
• Try removing useless programs.
• Keep your Desktop Clean.
• You can try cleaning the temp directory by going to ** RUN** and type " %temp% " quotes and delete all the files there.Some not delete so leave them and delete others.

One major thing I can think of is maybe slow internet. Could also be too many background apps running.
