Why not just use that energy consumed running the heat pump to run electric heaters inside the house and heat it directly that way?

Heat pump is more efficient. If you use electric heaters, 1 joule of electric energy will produce 1 joule of heat energy. If you use heat pumps, 1 joule of electric energy can pump several joules - perhaps up to 5 or 6, depending on the outside temperature, and the efficiency of the heat pump - of heat, from the outside to the inside.

Should a heat pump cool below 59 degrees?

A heat pump generally has a max temperature change of 20 degrees F. If air entering the return duct is 90, it will not be cooler than 70 on the discharge side, Below 60, it is working against the insulation and air infiltration into the house. It is an air conditioner, not a deep freeze. Remember that a heat pump either dumps heat outside to cool a house, or picks up heat from outside to heat the house. If it is 100 degrees outside, it is hard to dump heat. Below 35, it is hard to pick up heat. At an outside temp of 59 degrees, it should work for either- but nobody needs cooling when it is 59 degrees outside. Open a window, already!.

Vent supply air temp for winter heat pump?

No set temp for heat pump, the colder it is outside the colder the supply temp. Until the supplemental heat kicks in. If you are in Florida or a similar climate, you may not have supplemental heat. The problem is the unit is operating below it`s design condition for the area and you`ll just have to wait for it to warm up outside.

Why is your HVAC unit outside freezing in the winter?

Your unit is freezing up out side like a block of ice? if so then obviously you have a heat pump.. what is happenong is your defrost board or thermostat on the out side unit is no good and needs to be replaced.. if you cant afford service on it, to defrost the unit some what quickly, turn your air conditioner on for abour 5 minutes.. that should defrost the unit..

Why does a heat pump freeze up in summer?

A HEAT PUMP IS AN A/C UNIT OPERATING IN THE REVERSE MODE. THE OUTDOOR UNIT BECOMES THE EVAPORATOR. THE OUTDOOR UNIT IS MOVING HEAT REMOVED FROM THE OUTSIDE AIR TO THE INDOOR AIR USING THE REFRIGERATION CYCLE. TO MAKE THE CYCLE WORK, WE HAVE TO "EVAPORATE" THE REFRIGERANT AT A TEMPERATURE BELOW THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE. THIS TEMPERATURE IS MORE TIMES THAN NOT, BELOW FREEZING, HENCE THE FORMATION OF ICE. OPERATION IN THE "HEAT" MODE, BUILDING ICE, REQUIRES THE USE OF A DEFROST CYCLE TO REMOVE THE ICE EVERY SO OFTEN. LC

What happens when defrost timer goes out in heat pump?

The outside unit will not defrost and a thick layer of frost will build up, rendering it innefective.

How do you stop water from freezing?

How does an electric heat pump work?

An electric heat pump can heat up your home during winter and cool it during summer.

Should your outdoor HVAC compressor run when your heater is on?

no sounds like your wires are crossed at your thromsthat Answer If you have a heat pump system, YES the compressor should run. You can find out if the system is a heat pump usually by looking at the thermostat. Heat pump thermostats usually have "Cool-Off-Heat-Emergency Heat" on the system switch. Another way would be to feel the air coming out of the outside unit when the heat is on. If the air coming out feels very cold, then it's a heat pump. even if you have a heat pump, the only way the in door unit should be producing heat is if you are all electric if you are gas the heat pump should lockout to prevent the persure from getting to high causing the indoor coil to blow up.

How does the heat effects the melting of the snow?

The higher the heat, the faster the atoms will vibrate and break up into a liquid. but when freezing the atoms move slower and freeze because it is below the freezing point.

How do you install a pressure pump from a rainwater tank?

I just did one and use a sump pump and an stand up "farm" faucet so that I didn't have to worry about it freezing. You could use a centrifugal pump and just put a pick up line in the tank if freezing is not an issue. The actual layout of lines, pump and electrical supply would depend on your situation.
