Sounds like you need a water pump, The bearings in the water pump are making the noise not the pulley.
The pump will need replaced if it is grinding.
Don't ignore that kind of sound. Find out what is causing it and replace or repair the faulty part. A "grinding noise" can be caused by an alternator, water pump, idler pulley, heater fan motor, air pump or any of a long list of components, many of which can cause some serious problems if they seize or come apart.
Check it is not a grinding noise from a pulley or part like the water pump, idler, tensioner etc. Or suspension like the wheel bearing, axle etc. Make sure where it is first before proceeding. If it is in the engine then something is amiss. It is never good to hear grinding from the engine. I suspect it may be from an extenal source though.
the water pump is driven by the timing belt so the pulley your talking about is not for the H20 pump but only for the fan
grinding noise from the fan is a bad bearing on either the fan or the water pump.have it checked before it lets go and goes thru radiator
water pumps don't normally give signs of failing. what happens is the bearings give out. you can take the belt off and spin the pulley, if you hear a grinding noise or it won't turn, you might have a bad pump.
I WOULD START WITH THE WATER PUMP. THEY CAN MAKE A GRINDING SOUND AND CAUSE THE CAR TO OVER HEAT PREVENTING IT FROM RESTARTING UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN. SOME WATER PUMPS HAVE A WEEP HOLE (USUALLY ON THE BOTTOM). WHEN THE PUMP STARTS TO CRAP OUT COOLANT WILL LEAK THROUGH THE HOLE.
Probably the idler pulley or the tensioner pulley on the serpentine belt. Carefully use a little squirt bottle and spray each one with a little water. When it gets quiet you know which one to change.
Did you look at the alternator bearings?Take the belt off and spin the alteranator to see if the bearings are bad.
Even if you have brand new or good brakes when the pads become hot from braking and then cooled very fast from water then the pads tend to crystalize creating the squeaking noise when you brake you just have to let them squeak it out
Every accessory that is turned by that belt can make some sort of noise...the alternator and water pump berrings wear out, causing a dull grinding noise. The power stearing pump can make a whirring noise, and the AC compressor makes a rattling noise when the AC system has had no refriderant in it for some time. Very UNLIKELY that its the balencer on the crankshaft causing your trouble
If it is a high pitch noise and the tractor does not start, your battery might be too weak. Check the water level in the battery.
