find the switch on either the door or the door jam and glue a penny to it so that it reads shut all the time!!
Shut the door!
The light is turned on by a switch on each door. Check them one at a time to see which it is, and then adjust or replace it.
Try spraying the button on the inside door jam with penetrant and working it in and out.
Check to see if the door ajar light is on. If it is, then a door may not me closing fully or the door switch is bad. Check the dash dimmer light, to make sure that it has not been bumped to "interior light on" setting.
Try shutting the door.
I had the same problem with my 02 Ford Ranger the sensor is inside the door (genius idea ford). no amount of wd40 helped. luckily for me it was my passenger door. I just unplugged it and the dome light doesn't turn on for the passenger door but works find for the driver's door.
Mine wont either, not sure what the problem is. I checke all the doors including trunk and hood! Not sure what to do or why its doing it?
You would have to pull courtesy light fuse, if they are to be open for extended period for repairs, just disconnect batt
Car believes one door is ajar - dirty/inoperable door switch? Light manual on/dash dim/dome on switch is swivelled completely clockwise; or is shorted making car believe you want the dome light manually switched on.
My F250 does the same thing. I think it has something to do with the door latching mechanism. I ended up taking out the bulbs. You can still manually turn on the interior lights with the switch up on the ceiling.
Try spraying the door latch liberally with WD-40, open and close the door several times, and then spray with a silicone
Just above the headlight switch is the dimmer control for the dash lights - roll it all the way to the right to turn the interior lights on and, of course, to the left to turn the dome out and the farther you turn it the dimmer the dash panel gets. There is also that switch on the dash next to the fog light switch which controls the dome light activation when any of the doors are open and if it is on and a door is ajar, the light won't go out. Or if one of the door switches is loose or stuck it will affect the operation of the light as well. In that case turn the door switch off.
