African Immigrants find the State of Texas an attractive place to settle in the US for several reasons. 1. Tropical climate. The climate of Texas is similar to the climate of many African countries. Africans generally prefer to avoid the winter if their job opportunities and its location permits. 2. The vast expanse and low cost of living in Texas compared to other states. 3. The plurality and diversity of Texan and especially Houstonian population. - With Hispanics, Asians, Caucasians all living in Harmony. 4. The opportunities for Self employment afforded by no state tax and business friendliness. 5. Texas is a part of the 'bible belt"and many African immigrants are evangelical Christians and so find the religious atmosphere and conservative value system of Texas and Texas a good match for them. Because of the stated reasons, newer immigrants from Africa tend to go to areas where they have friends and relations, coming from the same region of nativity. This makes Texas a top contender, but it is still behind New England in total African immigrant population.
