Many needed reforms occurred in church history. The largest one that ever occurred resulted in the creation of the Nicene creed. Many of the orders in the Roman Catholic Church, such as the Franciscans and Jesuits were created to reform the church. In 1517 Martin Luther nailed a list of items to debate on the cathedral door. These items were copied and sent all over Europe. The church began to reform. The Emperor, Charles V, did not like the reforms, and rather than let the church handle them, he decided to stop them. Other political leaders liked the reforms. The political break came with a schism in the church. So, Unlike similar reforms in the past that stayed within a united church, Protestantism broke with Rome
