Any question regarding religion itself is a very personal and subjective matter. This is as broad a question as one could ask, and any short and simple answer is subject to a great deal of interpretation.

There are a wide variety of "old religion" philosophies, as well as a wide variety of Christian philosophies. Whether or not these "old religions" actually make an attempt to come to terms with Christianity, is a matter dealt with each religion itself, as well as on a personal basis.

First addressing the original question of Why should old religions capitulate to newer faiths like Christianity, there are numerous "old religions" such as Taoism, Confucianism, Buddhism, to name just a few, which are widely practiced, and coexist in a world of Christianity. Many would argue that an individual can believe in the concept Karma, or enlightenment, and also consider themselves a Christian. It is not as much a matter of one coming to terms with the other, as much as it is a matter of coexistence.

When you change the wording of the question to "Should old religions like Paganism capitulate to newer faiths like Christianity?" The question takes on a slightly different track. Not all old religions are pagan, and not all pagan religions are old.

Is it a matter of whether the old pagan rituals of Greco-Roman polytheism have to come to terms with Christianity, or more like it, has Christianity come to terms with many of the old Greco-Roman rituals. If you closely study many of the rituals and holidays of modern Christianity, you will find many things that have their roots in old Greco-Roman rituals. In terms of the question, "Should old religions like Paganism capitulate to newer faiths like Christianity?" you will find that in many ways Christianity has in fact capitulated to old school Paganism.

Are the Abrahamic faiths based on Paganism?

As with most religions that interact, there is a certain amount of influence that has gone from paganism into the Abrahamic religions, and vice versa. However, at their basis they are different and there is no clear derivation, as most of the ancient pagan religions were polytheistic and the Abrahamic religions have always been monotheistic. However, it is acknowledged that by some that when Abraham made his coventant with Yahweh, he agreed to worship only Yahweh, which implies that at the time there was a belief in multiple deities, which would imply some pagan origin.
